Had I ever heard of them before: yes, he wants some of your brown sugar.
Reductive First Impression: The first couple of tracks are ace. Then it’s ok. then I enjoy some of the other stuff…
I’m sorry, I listened twice but it just washed by me. Apart from the first couple of tracks which were great.
Will I listen to it again: soz.
Had I ever heard of them before: Nope.
Reductive First Impression: When I saw the cover, I was all, like, “guh”. Then I listened to it and… fuck me. Well this is eclectic and innovative. Every song seemed to have a hook that had something unexpected but seemed to make sense. I like it most when it’s least like R and B and least when it’s most like R and B. But there’s loads in there. Honestly some of it’s indie rock…
Will I listen to it again: Can someone just cherry pick the songs I’ll like for me? And also do that with Drake? K thx bye.
Had I ever heard of them before: Yes, went to see her last year and got so drunk I puked when I got home.
Reductive First Impression: When I listened to this last year I didn’t like it as much as A Sea of Split Peas (which I loved), as I felt the songs weren’t as strong and the production was to “generic 90’s-rock”. Sounded kind of like a band who loved Nirvana and that.
Relistening and I find it charming. She’s into the same kind of stuff as me. I like the production and the fact that an album that is made of unfashionable (at the moment) sounds can be praised as highly.
I like Courtney Barnett.
Will I listen to it again: Yup.
Had I ever heard of them before: Yes, friend is a big fan and he’s on To Pimp A Butterfly.
Reductive First Impression: Honestly, when I first heard this, my reaction was: errrrrgggg modern jazz. It’s been done. Plus this is smooth – really big band – has vibes and when there’s singing, it sucks. But by “side 2” (disc 2? – sides become super irrevelant when streaming) I was into it. I liked the takes on “classics”. I enjoyed the playing. Will I liek ti all? I dunno.
But when I first started I disliked it so intensely it almost scuppered the project.
Will I listen to it again: Yes, whilst I read Ursula Le Guin and sulk.
Had I ever heard of them before: ummmm
Reductive First Impression: Oh God, it’s not even a first impression. I’ve listened to this ummm 9 or 10 times but always whilst working. I… I… I… just don’t have that much to say.
It’s IDM. It’s on warp. It’s a concept/meta album of sorts. It’s definitely got some cool bits and some bits I can’t decide are cheesy or not. Is it really good, or just ok? I don’t know? I don’t know. I don’t knoe.
Will I listen to it again: Yes. I’m listening to it now. Just so I can have an opinion.
